It's ABL, here. I'm still figuring out this wiki business, but in the meantime, feel free to introduce yourself, say what state you live in, and describe what sort of involvement you want to have with this project.

It's going to be slow-going at first, but eventually, I hope this wiki will be the primary source for legislation nation-wide.

Thanks for joining, and remember: Littlerati Jenkins loves you.

ETA: If you think you will want to be an editor (add content) then please click help on the right-hand side and watch the wiki video tutorials that my ninja has created. They are very helpful if you've never done wiki-editing before. I'm still learning.

Thanks.

ETA 1: Webninja has created a volunteer form that you can fill out here. That way I'll know what sort of involvement you want to have. Thanks!

Hello, I'm Scott Candage. I graduated Boston University School of Law in 1996, when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. I have experience in legal editing for LexisNexis, editing old law cases and created those fun synopses and core concepts that all the lawyers love. I also worked for Kaplan PMBR writing bar review preparation questions. So I can edit whatever you need editing. I'll keep in touch.

I have a daughter and I'm.afraid of what kind of world she will grow up in if we don't stand up to these crazy and offensive laws trying to demean women

Hi there,
I live in Australia, though I lived in California for 18 years. I've had to walk through screaming anti-abortion protesters to enter a clinic. Friends of mine have had to cross state lines for a termination. No woman needs to go through that.
I'm raising 3 kids, 2 of them girls, and I don't want their reproductive rights/choices restricted.
I'm now out of touch with US abortion legislation now, but I'm only too happy to contribute information from the Antipodes.

Cheers,

Deb

Hello All,

I'm Christine from the metro Detroit area. I love the idea behind this site and would love to contribute.

I have been very involved with the OWS movement, but am becoming frustrated with the male centric attitudes within the movement. I have decided to channel my energy into projects or movements that I can more fully identify with, namely women's rights and/or feminist groups.

I identify as a transgender woman and a lesbian, and would like to contribute to any part of the wiki dealing with trans issues as I have participated in and created presentation/teaching content on the subject. I am also a part-time writer and I enjoy editing, so I could offer support in that regard as well.

I fully back this sort of effort and hope to be part of a larger awakening that promotes action on issues that affect women directly.

with lots of love,
Christine

Hi All,

Ex South African, now living in Canada and absolutely fascinated with American politics and dumbfounded by the sheer ignorance and idiocy of some - okay, not just some - all of the GOP.

Hope I am doing this right - am completely computer illiterate!

Hello. I'm Dayton Cheatham. I graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2011. While there, I volunteered for President Obama and Representative Ellison and did extensive research on the marriage equality issue as a Research Assistant. This year I am looking to be more involved politically, online and off. I do not yet have a blog, although I am considering starting one. I do have a Twitter account @OwainCunedda. I have experienced editing a Wiki, although for rather geeky reasons. Since most of you don't know me, I'm going to hold off on asking for editor privileges.

Hello Everyone!

My name is Amanda, I live in from Oklahoma. My twitter handle is @LbrlOkie77 I worked as a legal secretary for the Department of Human Services in a prior life. I do understand some legal jargon. I am good at spreadsheets, finding information, tweeting and whatever else I might be able to help with.

Hello. My name is Linda, my twitter account is @LindaW51. I am in the desert area of California. My early career was legal secretary (15 yrs) and more recent career was auditing tax returns (22 yrs). I am experienced with spreadsheets and I have strong proofreading skills. I retired 2 yrs ago so I have time. Hi everyone, I'm sparrow. I'm a physicist by trade; so if you need someone to calculate the exact timing and launchpoint of a cream pie headed for Limbaugh's head, I guess I'm your woman!

Seriously though, this shit with the lady parts has to STOP. I find myself getting furiously angry (and usually yelling at my actually awesome boyfriend who also loves lady parts) about every day now and I swear I'm going to have a damned stroke because of it.

I am WAY INTO doing constructive things, so I am willing to help out however I can. I would generally say I am a useful, tech-savy person. And you know, physics. If you need that.

Oh, location. I was born in Kansas, lived for about 6 years in Oklahoma, and did my time of 10 years in Texas, where I currently reside. So you can say I've had the life tour of states full of ass-hattery. (Not that I don't love me some Mid/West/Southerners, but I can't help noticing where the stupid is concentrated).

(I doubt any of you know me and I don't blog so I'm not asking to edit.)

You're a physicist? And a woman? I love you!

What kind of physicist? Atomic, particle, planetary astrophys...? Theoretical? Experimentalist?

I'm not sure how much need there will be for solving the three-body problem around here, but you know it's funny... when I was configuring this thing, I kept looking for an excuse to install the LaTex-ish plugin, but I thought "well, we probably won't have much need for an equation interpreter on a politwiki..." But for you? I will install it. Just in case you ever need to do some fancy math. For... um... statistics! Yes, that's what we'll go with. Statistics.

We will not at all consider devoting a wiki page to precision calculations of the transference of pie linear velocity to angular momentum on an arc toward certain large, doughy targets. Ahem. ;)

Hi! High-Energy Astrophysics, primarily "observational". (That's our version of experimentalist, although there are these awesome people that use lasers to simulate astrophysical jets. Crazy stuff.) And I DO love LaTex! Any calcuations ending in mortification for a certain blowhard are of course entirely an exercise to keep the Uterati in good mental shape. ;)

Hello all!

I'm Mia Raven (@MiaRaven on Twitter) and I'm so happy & honored to have been asked by ABL to serve as the uterus in charge of lady part laws attempting to be put through the State House of Alabamastan. I don't have a personal blog, but this will probably change soon, as I have way more to say than 140 characters will allow.

I'm a computer freak (CIS degree, 1996, seriously outdated but I've still got skillz) and have been a small business owner since becoming somewhat disabled at 25. I have extra time on my hands and live 5 minutes from the state capitol in Montgomery. I'm also working with a super bipartisan group of ladies in Alabama that are fed up with chicken farmers trying to slut shame us. I like to spy on anti-choicers and gay rights are also dear to my heart.

I look forward to getting to know all the great (and apparently super smart, yay!) men & women here! :)

Welcome! There are some really smart uterati here. I'm waking up every day with a smile just by checking this thread and seeing how impressive everyone is.

This project is going to be awesome.

Also: yay for geeks!

Not sure where to put this, so I will put it here and you can move it. I have found a list of bills/laws for each state that is currently waging the war on our uterati. This is as 3/10/12.

Alabama http://e-lobbyist.com/gaits/text/533944(external link) SB 20: This bill would be known as the Abortion Coverage Prohibition Act. http://e-lobbyist.com/gaits/text/532809(external link) SB 5: This bill would define the term "persons" to include all humans from the moment of fertilization and implantation into the womb.
http://e-lobbyist.com/gaits/text/533355(external link) SB 12: This bill would require a physician to perform an ultrasound, provide verbal explanation of the ultrasound, and display the images to the pregnant woman before performing an abortion. http://e-lobbyist.com/gaits/text/327615(external link) HB 18: Abortion, prohibited on or after 20 weeks post-fertilization, exceptions for health of mother, Legislative findings regarding pain felt by unborn child, reports to Office of Vital Statistics, civil and criminal penalties, Alabama Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act Alabama has not repealed its ban on abortion, enacted in 1852, last amended in 1975.

Alaska http://www.housemajority.org/spon.php?id=27sb191(external link) SB191 An Act requiring an ultrasound before an abortion

Arizona HB 2865 A bill to restrict women

Actually, there are 13 abortion related bills in Alabama. Let me finish doing some work I've been neglecting, and I'll get the document with each one & their legal explanations copied & pasted. :)

Wow 13. I will ask ABL to make an Alabama page/forum/discussion then you can just put it all in there. This was just something I found for us to go off of. I really do not know a lot about states, except for Oklahoma.

Done, and all the info I can find at the moment has been dumped there. :)

Question: Is it appropriate to dump news links about Alabamastan's idiotic anti choice behavior into that folder, or should that be posted somewhere else?

Hi all,

Gern Blandston here. I have a penis, I must admit, but I'm so effing sick and tired of other people with penises screwing things up so badly. I'd apologize for them but I'm pretty sure they don't want me to, since they don't think they're doing anything wrong. They're wrong, of course.

I won't need editing privileges for now as I've a shortage of time to do much more than cheer you guys on, but that I will do, as much as possible.By trade I'm a Computer Scientist working for Verizon Wireless, so if there are technical needs here at the site I'll pitch in if I'm able.

Thanks for putting this together, Dear Editor, keep kicking ass!

Gern
